Doctor visit

The doctor visit went just fine. V weighs 17 pounds, 1 ounce. She's no longer in the 50th percentile like she was her last check up, now she's in the 25th percentile. I talked to the doctor about it but she said she wasn't concerned. V eats and is gaining weight but she's a lot more active now that she's older. Dr. Howard said that at her 12 month visit she would be concerned if she drops down again to an even lower percentile. Believe me, I feed the girl all she wants to eat.

She only needed one shot today. I hate it when she's laying on the table and the nurse is swabbing down the injection site and Violet thinks she's playing with her. Then comes the needle and the screaming begins. I gave her Tylenol before we got there and she's been fine the rest of the day - no extra fussiness or anything.

Her pediatrician is pregnant - due in September. This is their third child and she's told me that she nursed her first baby for two years and has co-slept with her children as well. That's nice because she comes the closest to understanding Violet of any doctor we've seen. I was reading the handout she gave me out loud to Ross tonight and it says something like you should lay your baby down in her crib while she's awake so that she can learn to soothe herself. He just started laughing. We've done that before, but it wasn't very soothing to any of us. I know a lot of people have ideas on co-sleeping and on how long to breastfeed - and I had a lot of ideas on that stuff too before I had Violet. Now I'll just say that a girl reserves the right to change her mind and we'll do what we think is best for V and then rework the plan as necessary as she gets older.

And now I'll put that issue to rest - maybe I'll put it into V's crib because V certainly isn't using it. Too bad, too, because it's a gorgeous crib. Maybe the next one will like it...
